  • What the process for writing a eulogy? How do I get it?
Once you order the eulogy from our store, the process starts. Basically, it looks like this: You'll receive an email with a questionnaire for you to complete. This is quite in-depth but, don’t think you have to complete EVERY question. The idea is to help me understand their life history so I can build a eulogy that fully captures their life. The more you can complete the better, so feel free to ask your family and friends for their input. Please remember that completing the questionnaire can trigger some strong emotions and whilst you’re still grieving, it can be hard to do. Please consider having someone around to help you complete it. They can also help you remember things to include. Once you’ve returned the questionnaire, I’ll start work on the eulogy straight away. It usually takes 1-2 days for me to complete the first draft. If there’s any more information I need, or any clarifications on the information you’ve supplied, I’ll contact you using the details from the questionnaire. I’ll try to keep this to a minimum. Once the eulogy is completed, even as a first draft, I’ll email it over. Again, it can be a difficult read, especially the first time, and can be upsetting to see it written down, so PLEASE consider having someone with you when you read it. Please share it with your closest family and friends for their input. If there are any changes you want to make, please let me know. We’ll repeat steps 4-6 until you’re completely happy with it. Once finalised, I’ll send over a final version for you to use at the ceremony.
  • How long will it take to write a eulogy?
We normally asked for at least 7 days to write a eulogy. This will include delivery of the first draft and any edits that may be needed. We completely understand that, following the death of a loved one, there's obviously a mourning period, but also no shortage of things that need resolving when it comes to getting their affairs in order. We absolutely do NOT want to make any of that more complicated or any harder than it needs to be so we will try and keep our communications to a minimum. That's also the reason why the questionnaire you complete when ordering is so in-depth, so that we can gather as much information as possible without the need to keep asking for more.
  • How many times will you revise the eulogy once delivered?
As many as it needs to make it perfect for you. Once we deliver our first draft, please share it with your close family and friends. It's common for people to want to add bits here, move sections around or remove parts completely and that's all absolutely fine. We'll do as many changes as needed until you're happy with it.
  • How long will the eulogy be?
That really depends on you and the arrangements you've made. We don't write to a word count but we will write the eulogy to to fit within your timescale. Bear in mind that a eulogy is just one part of a memorial service, which often also includes songs or hymns, poem or scripture recitals, movement of the coffin, personal reflection time, etc. As part of the ordering process, it's a question we'll ask you once you understand how it fits in with your plans. We work on an average speaking rate of 120 words per minute.
  • I need a eulogy quickly. What's your turnaround time?
If you need a eulogy quicker than our normal turnaround time (around 7 days), please get in touch BEFORE ordering. Our workload varies so please speak to us to understand what you need and how quickly you need it. We will ALWAYS try and help you if we can, even at short-notice. There will obviously be information we need from you, so often the time it takes to write a eulogy is often governed by how quickly that information can be sent over. The sooner you can provide it, the sooner we can start writing.
  • I've written the eulogy myself, can you help polish it?
Of course! It's no small feat to write a eulogy, especially if writing isn't your 'trade'. If you, or a member of your family, have wrote a eulogy yourself then we are more than happy to help give it a polish to make it even better.
  • What format is the eulogy delivered in?
You can have it almost any format at all. When you complete the questionnaire to share the information we need, one of those questions is the format you want the eulogy delivered in. This can be Microsoft Word, Rich Text, Apple Pages, PDF, etc. It's entirely up to you.
  • Do you write eulogies in languages other than English?
Sadly, I'm not clever enough to write a eulogy other than in my native tongue, English. That said, there are a number of translation tools available online that could translate it for you. It is worth noting that these tools aren't always 100% accurate, so you would need to review it for accuracy, grammar and syntax before use.
  • If I want to have a video call with you, can I?
Of course! Just let me know a date / time that's suitable and which system you want to use (i.e. Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, etc) and we can set it up!
  • My loved one is catholic, can I still order a eulogy?
Yes, you can still order one, but generally catholic funerals don't allow eulogies as part of the funeral service as homilies are more appropriate. This is because the Mass is a specific liturgical rite that needs to be followed closely according to Catholic guidelines, so, under those guidelines, there's no room for eulogies. Anything said during Mass must have the express purpose of being related to the teachings of the Catholic church, and a eulogy that focuses exclusively on the life and times of the deceased usually does not meet that requirement. However, this does not mean that there can't be words of remembrance spoken of the deceased in context with their relationship with their faith and how it intersected with the teachings of the Catholic church. Rather than a traditional eulogy, Catholic funerals are generally known to only allow words that represent an interpretation of the deceased's life by reference to the suffering, death, resurrection, and ascension of Christ in the form of a homily. It's also worth pointing out that, unlike other religions, a family member or close friend cannot speak these words. Instead, they must come from the priest or a deacon. Finally, these guidelines are not universally followed. Some churches are gradually becoming more relaxed about this requirement, so it's best to check with the church beforehand to be sure before ordering.
